The review:
Pahlmeyer 2007 Napa Valley Chardonnay
Delicious. Best of tasting. What California Chardonnay can be, with ripe, rich fruit held in such control it seems to vibrate. Clean, focused and classy, with some mouthfeel and the most luscious roasted-lime finish, with a lingering hint of nutmeg. World-class. Ageable. We did not like the 2006 nearly as much.
Excerpts from the article:
"...Our best of tasting was from Pahlmeyer, which has been such a well-regarded name for so long that it had a starring role in the movie "Disclosure" in 1994, before Michael Douglas looked like Kirk and when Demi Moore looked her age. This single wine brought back memories of so many great Chardonnays because it had the amazing balance of impressive fruit, judicious use of oak and vibrant intensity that made American Chardonnay so special decades ago.
"The difference between the vast majority of wines and the good ones, like the Pahlmeyer, was obvious with the first whiff. Most of the wines smelled heavy, tired, oaky and clumsy. The good ones smelled crisp and clean and lively, with mouth-watering aromas of fresh fruit and maybe a hint of wood..."
