"Very ripe and just a touch earthy to boot, this wine starts off in a problematic direction, but it clears up with airing and brings out a highly concentrated fruit character that lifts the aromas out of their doldrums and propels the flavors into juicy prominence from entry to lasting finish.  Admittedly, the aromas are not this wine's strong suit, but its depth and richness earn it full commendation and, were it not for its awkward start, this bottling would surely have rated higher."  90 points
