Chronicle Tasting Panel's Favorite Wines of 2017

Houston Chronicle, January 15, 2018

It's a new year with many new wines to discover, but before we move on, I'd like to revisit some of the Chronicle panel's favorites from 2017, with comments from our tasters. A number remain on shelves locally while others have transitioned to new vintages - those are noted accordingly along with outside critical acclaim, if available. Though we haven't officially put the latter through their paces yet, the consistency of the winemaking in the wineries I've included suggests they're all well worth taking a flyer on.

2013 Pahlmeyer Merlot: 18.2 (9.2 for quality, 9 for value). "Vanilla aromas from the oak. Big fruit, chocolate notes. Bone-dry tannins."
