Dried pears and apples with peaches and blanched almonds, turning to dry mango. Full-bodied with layers of phenolics that show tannins and depth. Takes you deep down into the wine. A tiny selection of the best barrels of chardonnay here. A very serious chardonnay with great depth that calls for bottle age. 50 cases made. Try after 2026.
Bottled in March 2018, the 2016 Chardonnay Savoir Faire features a gregarious nose of green mangoes, yuzu zest, lemongrass and lime leaves over a core of pink grapefruit, nectarines and Bosc pears plus a waft of lightly browned toast. Medium-bodied, it fills the palate with creamy stone fruit and pears notions, lifted by a lively line and finishing on an almondy note.
The 2014 Chardonnay Savoir Faire offers a more buttery, deeper, richer, more full-bodied and creamy style. It has loads of almost lychee nut, white peach, honeysuckle, brioche and a hint of hazelnut. This is a seriously endowed, gorgeous wine that may well be one of the best 2014 Chardonnays I have tasted. It can be drunk over the next 6-8 years.
“Slightly darker gold color and offers a big, sweet kiss of roasted almonds and hazelnuts as well as some apple crisp, poached pear, honeysuckle and brioche notes. This complex, full-bodied, Bâtard-Montrachet-like Chardonnay should drink well for 7-8 years. It is a tour de force in winemaking and a profound Chardonnay.”
